Gravel Pit "Rusty Giants"

In this abandoned gravel pit, construction materials such as grit, gravel and sand were hauled out of the ground.

Mining was done with bucket excavators, dredgers and other earthmovers.

From the gravel pit, the material was transported to special processing plants and from there to storage silos using mile-long conveyor belt systems.

In January of 2016, Parts of the conveyor belts caught on fire. Almost 60 firemen were at the scene, supported by fire trucks from the nearby military airfield.
