Observatory B.
On a quiet hill, just beyond the main road, stands the weathered shell of a small observatory. Built in the early 1980s by an engineer and amateur astronomer from a nearby city, the structure was conceived as a private space for stargazing and experimentation. Its modest rotating dome once sheltered a telescope, offering its builder a personal gateway to the cosmos.
With time, the site fell into neglect. What was once a beacon of curiosity and scientific enthusiasm gradually became overgrown, vandalized, and reduced to ruins. Local lore has since
attached myths of secret research and state surveillance to the observatory’s story, though no verifiable evidence supports such claims.
Today, the abandoned dome remains as a rare architectural fragment of private scientific ambition during the late years of the German Democratic Republic — a place where individual passion briefly intersected with the stars, and where history and imagination now coexist in equal measure.
